Coexist Community Kitchen, Stokes Croft

Posted on: March 30, 2011

The community hub Coexist, based in one of Bristol’s most deprived areas, are seeking to set up a professional kitchen where local residents can come and get affordable lessons on all aspects of food and cookery…

The Community Kitchen aims to not only provide food education to the residents of Stokes Croft, but also to provide an affordable service to vulnerable groups in the local area, from cookery lessons for young people to nutrition classes for people in sheltered housing. Local entrepreneurs will be able to use it as a platform to kick start catering businesses. The Community Kitchen aims to link the public with the vast wealth of Bristol food and support organisations.

Bryony Morgan from Made In Bristol says “We are looking forward to showcasing the new food businesses working in the Community Kitchen at Made In Bristol events and the Harbourside Market.”

Coexist needs to raise funds to replace the floor, reinstate services and buy new equipment. Coexist plan to raise money through various fundraising campaigns, the first of which is the international funding platform IndieGoGo – head to the Coexist Community Kitchen page to learn more about their campaign and help raise money now.

Coexist have been operating out of Hamilton House in Stokes Croft for the past two years, and since their arrival have transformed a derelict set of office buildings into a vibrant cultural hub. In just two years, Coexist has been host to over 200 individuals and organisations and offers a wide range of activities: including dance and movement classes every day, educational talks and courses, community music space and recording studios, meeting rooms and alternative therapy rooms and studio space for artists and small businesses.
