Still on a quest to find decent Italian restaurants in Bristol, we decided to try Filini, attached to the Radisson Blu Hotel on central Bristol’s Broad Quay. A modern restaurant rather than a ‘just like mama used to make’ type venue, we booked a table for a midweek three course meal… Read the rest of this entry »

I recently blogged about a new Italian restaurant that has opened on St Michaels Hill, on the site of a former curry house. We finally had the chance to pay them a visit for a pre-pub meal, with mixed thoughts on the food… Read the rest of this entry »

If you haven’t yet discovered Travelzoo’s local deals, it’s definitely worth heading over to their website and signing up for email alerts whenever a new deal appears. An email in June promoted a fantastic deal at Aqua Italia for two people: 2 cocktails and a ‘fritto misto’ each plus two sharing platters for just £29. A friend and I headed over there on Thursday night for a relaxed midweek dinner… Read the rest of this entry »

The impromptu decision of a friend and I to go for lunch on Saturday meant a wander down Park Street from the top of the Triangle to find somewhere (a), not too expensive, and (b), that we hadn’t tried before. We hadn’t walked very far before we ended up at Vincenzo’s Italian Restaurant, and were lured in by the blackboard outside advertising a ridiculously cheap lunchtime deal… Read the rest of this entry »

Italophiles will love the next event to be hosted by Italian restaurant Rosemarino: an evening of Italian language, food and wine all rolled into one on Wednesday, June 8th… Read the rest of this entry »

Having had to go back to London this weekend, I missed my good friend Laura’s birthday celebrations. I was able to contribute a little, however, by helping her lunchtime dining companion to choose a restaurant for a birthday meal.

Luckily, the recommendation paid off, and Laura was so happy with her trip to Clifton Village’s Prosecco that she decided to write a guest review for me…thanks Laura! 🙂 Read the rest of this entry »

It’s Italian night this coming Friday at Papadeli in Clifton – £40 gets you canapes, Prosecco and a 4-course Italian meal.

This evening is one of a range that the deli have been organising over the past few months, each giving their customers an introduction to food from a different part of Europe. The list so far includes Provencal, British and a Sicilian night which – judging by comments on the News section of their website, was very well attended.

If there are still places available, we’ll be booking for Friday! Menu is as below – more details available on their website if you’re interested.

Canapes with Prosecco

Grilled mussels with garlic & parsley

Pizzette with buffalo mozzarella, radicchio & pesto

Crostini of chicken liver parfait & red onion marmalade

Starter

Bruschetta of white bean & rosemary puree, roast baby candy beetroot, rocket & pecorino sardo

Main

Bollito misto – traditional Piedmontese Winter broth with beef, Italian sausages, chicken & vegetables served with cavolo nero, baby pickled gherkins, capers, salsa verde & mostarda fruit

Pudding

Tiramisu

Cheese

Gorgonzola dolce with pears & orange blossom honey
