The quest for a quick bite to eat before the Monday night quiz at the Grain Barge took us to neighbouring Siam Harbourside, a Thai restaurant that’s had mixed reviews from people I’ve spoken to – and we had a similarly mixed experience… Read the rest of this entry »
The Living Room: Review

Before the visit that I’m going to write about here, I’d paid three visits to various branches of The Living Room, and had three equally disappointing experiences. The first was a meal in London’s Islington branch, where it was claimed on arrival that all dishes were made from scratch, and yet my risotto made its way to my table less than 10 minutes after ordering and was overcooked. The first visit to the Bristol restaurant saw three different diners ordering exactly the same starter but with no consistency between the three plates of food. And the third visit was for drinks only, where we were met with a scathing ‘we ARE a cocktail bar’ when asking the barman, out of curiosity, which ciders they served. Unsurprisingly, after those visits, I was a little reluctant to head back. I’m pleased to say, though, that it was very much a case of ‘fourth time lucky’ when a friend and I visited The Living Room for a Saturday night meal… Read the rest of this entry »

With 14 of us needing a table for a friend’s birthday celebrations, the first choice of venue would normally be Sands on Queens Road. However, with the Lebanese restaurant having recently shut its doors, we decided to give new Lebanese restaurant Afendi on Cheltenham Road a whirl instead… Read the rest of this entry »

Another search for a cheap post-work bite to eat on Whiteladies Road led a friend and I to another venue that I hadn’t yet eaten at: Picture House East. It was the board outside that swayed us, advertising two courses for £10 (or three for £13.50)…rude not to, really… Read the rest of this entry »

A mid-week post-work coffee with fellow food blogger Ingrid, author of Sweet And Wild, soon led to the realisation that we were hungry. It also led to the realisation that neither of us had eaten at the restaurant at The Square Club on Berkeley Square, a situation that we decided to rectify immediately… Read the rest of this entry »

Surprisingly, despite being so close to both home and the office, Bordeaux Quay is another place that I hadn’t yet eaten at until very recently. A work to welcome a new member to our team, however, was the perfect opportunity to give it a go… Read the rest of this entry »

Ever since I started Bristol Bites, The Kensington Arms in Redland has been somewhere that I’ve been told I must visit. Embarrassingly, I started the blog in January 2010, but didn’t manage to visit until August 2011 for a quiet Monday night meal… Read the rest of this entry »

Still on a quest to find decent Italian restaurants in Bristol, we decided to try Filini, attached to the Radisson Blu Hotel on central Bristol’s Broad Quay. A modern restaurant rather than a ‘just like mama used to make’ type venue, we booked a table for a midweek three course meal… Read the rest of this entry »

I recently blogged about a new Italian restaurant that has opened on St Michaels Hill, on the site of a former curry house. We finally had the chance to pay them a visit for a pre-pub meal, with mixed thoughts on the food… Read the rest of this entry »
