Another search for a cheap post-work bite to eat on Whiteladies Road led a friend and I to another venue that I hadn’t yet eaten at: Picture House East. It was the board outside that swayed us, advertising two courses for £10 (or three for £13.50)…rude not to, really… Read the rest of this entry »

Book now for a “fabulous seasonal seafood lunch” at Whiteladies Road’s RockFish Grill on Wednesday, September 28th, hosted by owner Mitch Tonks and Somerset Life magazine… Read the rest of this entry »

Saturday, August 13th. The sign up outside Taste of Transylvania no longer informs passers by that it’s ‘opening soon’, but rather that its opening day was today. Intrigued by the prospect of a Romanian restaurant in Bristol, we decided to head down for lunch – and ended up being their first customers… Read the rest of this entry »

It’s always great to see new independents opening up in Bristol, and last week saw the opening of an exciting new business in Clifton in the form of butcher Ruby & White. The former Threshers shop at 48 Whiteladies Road has now been taken over by neighbouring The Cowshed’s Adam Denton, offering local shoppers a butcher, wine shop and delicatessen, all in one place. I popped in there on Sunday to take a look… Read the rest of this entry »

I’ve been meaning to try the food at Racks Bar & Kitchen for a while – partly because the pies have been recommended to me by a few people, and partly because I’ve had some lovely chats with them via Twitter. Even better, there’s an offer on Vouchercloud for 2 for 1 main courses (cheapest main free, with the voucher costing £1.79). We headed down there on a sunny midweek evening to enjoy both the food and a drink outside in the sun on their terrace… Read the rest of this entry »

At a time when so many local pubs are shutting, and with Wetherspoons having announced that they plan on doubling the number of pubs that they have in the UK, it’s always good to see new local ventures starting up. The latest of these in Clifton is the Black Boy Inn at 171 Whiteladies Road, which closed around Christmas time but which was bought in March and is now completely unrecognisable from what it was before. I popped in to have a chat to the new owners ahead of their opening on July 8th… Read the rest of this entry »

Great news for Clifton Village’s Arch House Deli, who have recently been announced as the South West Deli Of The Year in the Deli Of The Year Awards! Owners David Greenman and Debbie Atherton can now add this honour to an impressive list of awards (“Discover The Origin” award from Speciality Food Magazine in 2009, British Cheese Awards “Best New Deli” in 2007, “Best New Cheese Retailer” runner up in 2010) and will now go through to the finals in a big to become Deli Of The Year 2011… Read the rest of this entry »

Craving reasonably-priced Thai food over the recent Bank Holiday weekend, we decided to head to Thai Classic on Whiteladies Road after noticing their offer of three courses and a beer, glass of wine or soft drink for £16, 7 days a week… Read the rest of this entry »
