It’s not every day that a new fine dining venue opens in Bristol. Restaurant Fifty opened in Clifton Village on Saturday, July 30th, promising that “with their mix of modern cooking techniques they offer the Clifton dining scene a real treat”. Seeing the sample menus on their website and learning of the in-house smoker and credentials of owners Scott and Wendy Chance and head chef Dany Lancaster prompted us to book a table for dinner for the following Tuesday night… Read the rest of this entry »

When tasked with looking for a cheapish, relaxed restaurant in Clifton to catch up with a friend over an early evening weekday dinner, Bauhinia seemed like a good option. There were three key reasons for the choice: it had been recommended by friends and colleagues, it’s somewhere I’d not been before, and it offers an early evening menu of a starter and a main (from a selection from the main menu) for £8.90 per head – including Saturdays and Sundays… Read the rest of this entry »

I’m ashamed to admit that, despite having been in Bristol for almost two years, I’ve only recently paid my first visit to the Bristol institution that is The Thali Café. So reads a tweet from Princess Victoria Street’s Clifton Kitchen, posted on the morning of our visit. It seemed odd to us that the bread should be singled out as the highlight of the restaurant’s offerings on the day, but as it turned out, we agreed… Read the rest of this entry »
I’ve been struggling to find a decent Indian restaurant near me for a while, so when Asif from the newly opened Rupsha on Clifton Village’s Regent Street invited me to come for dinner, I wasn’t going to say no… Read the rest of this entry »

Signing up to mailing lists is definitely the way forward. Last week saw an email from The Mall pub in Clifton winging its way over, announcing that they were offering a limited number of complimentary meals for two. Why? Well, they’ve recently relaunched their menu and want customer feedback. It would have been rude not to help them out, really… Read the rest of this entry »
