Having transformed into a Michelin starred restaurant from a little local pizzeria, Westbury Village’s Casamia has found yet greater fame recently thanks to the restaurant’s victory in the Ramsay’s Best Restaurant series in November. My friend Laura and I were lucky enough to book a table in December with surprisingly little effort, thanks to Laura’s trial and error method of date selection via the restaurant’s online booking system. It’s getting ever closer to Christmas (as we’re continually being reminded) and time to start shopping for Christmas gifts for friends and family. Having moved to a city that’s so fantastic for local produce, I’m keen to use local suppliers as far as possible for gifts for those close to me that are into their food and drink.
The rather ambitious plan for Bristol Bites over the next few weeks is to post a series of suggestions of locally sourced or produced gift ideas for Bristol foodies. I’ll be covering a different “theme” each time – hopefully at least some of the ideas will be useful! Read the rest of this entry »

After a closely-fought nine week televised competition, a Bristol restaurant has outshone the competition to take the title of Gordon Ramsay’s Best Restaurant In The UK.
Michelin-starred Casamia in Westbury-on-Trym was one of 12,000 restaurants nominated by the public to take part in the contest, and fought off competition from Bradford’s Prashad, an Indian restaurant, to earn the accolade. Read the rest of this entry »
