Mi Casa Pop Up Restaurant – Feb 11th and 12th

Posted on: January 5, 2011

If you’re looking for something to do on February 11th or 12th, look no further. After a successful first date in November, the Harbourside-based pop up restaurant will be opening its doors to hungry diners on these two evenings…

November’s launch night saw 41 diners brave the snowy weather to enjoy a Spanish feast, designed for the communal tables to share. Tapas dishes, a Spanish stew with chicken, beef, chorizo and chickpeas, a Seville orange cake and Manchego cheese were accompanied by an acoustic guitar set of Spanish songs, and the feedback evident on Mi Casa’s Facebook page highlights the success of the evening.

The brains behind the idea are Kristjan Bigland and Alexis John – a pair who first met when Kristjan was front of house at riverstation and Alexis was in the kitchen. Alexis originally trained in her home country of Canada and now fronts the kitchen at Clifton’s Papadeli, while Kristjan has taken a different tack and now teaches at Bordeaux Quay’s cookery school.

Kristjan says, “Ever since reading an article about Jim Haines in Paris I have developed a mild obsession for the supper club/pop up restaurant phenomenon. Alexis and I decided we had what it would take to try it ourselves.”

“We share an obsession for the love of food. Sharing what we have learnt and making people happy is what we do best. For us food is about pleasure, understanding, common interest and memorable occasions.”

After hearing that the scout hut was available to hire, the two jumped at the opportunity, and will be using the same venue in February for their anti-Valentines theme. The menu is yet to be confirmed, but will be a four course meal for £25 per head. Kristjan and Alexis are also pleased to confirm that the evening will feature artworks (available to buy at the end of the evening) created live by Dirty Old Town.
