After the festive period, an evening of food and whisky may not be top of everyone’s minds this January! However, if you’re keen to join in with the traditional Scottish festivities, a number of Bristol venues are hosting evenings to mark the occasion.

Burns Night is traditionally celebrated on January 25th, but you’ll find that events are taking place in Bristol throughout that calendar week. Below is a selection of the venues in Bristol and the surrounding area that are celebrating the occasion…feel free to add any that I’ve missed to the comments box! Read the rest of this entry »

It’s getting ever closer to Christmas (as we’re continually being reminded) and time to start shopping for Christmas gifts for friends and family. The rather ambitious plan for Bristol Bites over the next few weeks is to post a series of suggestions of locally sourced or produced gift ideas for Bristol foodies. I’ll be covering a different “theme” each time – hopefully at least some of the ideas will be useful! Read the rest of this entry »

The first weekend of October (already?!) brings with it a wealth of food and drink-related events, mostly courtesy of South Gloucestershire’s 6th ‘Taste’ Local Food & Drink Festival. Read the rest of this entry »

Not a 100% food-related event, I know, but it’s worth heading down to the Glassboat‘s Summer Fayre this Sunday, July 11th.

For one day only, the dockside will be transformed into a quintessential English village fayre, complete with food and drink, stalls and games. Enjoy loose leaf teas, cucumber sandwiches, cakes, cheeses and wines while attempting to Splat the Rat or playing croquet, and enjoy browsing stalls selling things such as handmade children’s toys and vintage china.

The Glassboat is fast becoming known for its dockside events, which to date include cheese, chocolate and fish festivals. Head down to Welsh Back between 10am and 4pm tomorrow to soak up the atmosphere…and head to the Glassboat for brunch, served between 12 and 4, if you get peckish!
