It’s not often that I’ll agree to doing a 10-5 day on a Saturday. However, when it involves the chance to make my own cider, I can be persuaded… Read the rest of this entry »

Good times in Bath last Thursday – to celebrate the opening of the restaurant (their fifth, after two in Oxford, one in Reading and the Bristol branch), the owners of mini-chain Mission Burrito invited a select few bloggers and journalists over to learn more about the company and burritos in general, and to test out our culinary talents… Read the rest of this entry »

‘Instant’ ice cream made using liquid nitrogen? It sounds like something that you’d find on one of Heston Blumenthal’s TV shows. In actual fact, you can already book a Bristol-based company to create liquid nitrogen ice cream for private functions and corporate events. And, even more excitingly, owner of ‘Lick Me I’m Delicious‘ Charlie Francis has recently won funding in a national competition – Take One Small Step, run by Barclays Bank – which he plans to use to open an instant ice cream parlour in Bristol… Read the rest of this entry »

Another date for the diary – tickets are now on sale for the Windmill Hill City Farm/Cafe Maitreya Harvest Banquet on the evening of Saturday, September 17th… Read the rest of this entry »

Number 81 Whiteladies Road has, like many venues in Bristol, seen a number of name and ownership changes over the years. Its most recent incarnation was as Singaporean restaurant Orchid, which was still trading just a few weeks before we noticed the sign in the window saying that Street Food @ Bangkok would be opening on Monday, August 1st. A friend and I decided to check it out on the opening night… Read the rest of this entry »

It’s not every day that a new fine dining venue opens in Bristol. Restaurant Fifty opened in Clifton Village on Saturday, July 30th, promising that “with their mix of modern cooking techniques they offer the Clifton dining scene a real treat”. Seeing the sample menus on their website and learning of the in-house smoker and credentials of owners Scott and Wendy Chance and head chef Dany Lancaster prompted us to book a table for dinner for the following Tuesday night… Read the rest of this entry »

Another Italian restaurant for Park Street has sprung up in July 2011, only a stone’s throw away from the neighbouring ASK, Vincenzo’s and Jamie’s Italian. With a previous successful restaurant in Clacton-on-Sea, Essex, the owners of La Riva have now transferred their attention to Bristol, and we decided to head down to take advantage to the launch week offer of 20% off before 7.30pm – it’s in the perfect location for a bite to eat before our regular Wednesday night pub quiz at The Scotchman And His Pack on St Michaels Hill… Read the rest of this entry »

Another newish venue for us this week, this time Namaste Nepal – a new Nepalese and Indian restaurant on Frogmore Street. We’d already eyed up the menu online and had some chats with the very friendly Sunny via Twitter, so we were pretty optimistic about our meal… Read the rest of this entry »

The sign outside now proudly proclaims that the Black Boy Inn on Whiteladies Road is now open for business, as of Friday, July 8th. It’s taken new owners Ivona and Sam a few months to transform the place into the smart, stylish gastropub that it has now become, but with the venue packed with both diners and drinkers on the first day, and fully booked for its inaugural Sunday lunch, they’re off to a flying start… Read the rest of this entry »

I’ve been struggling to find a decent Indian restaurant near me for a while, so when Asif from the newly opened Rupsha on Clifton Village’s Regent Street invited me to come for dinner, I wasn’t going to say no… Read the rest of this entry »
