Fancy your chances in a pancake-eating competition…?

Posted on: February 17, 2011

I know at least one of my friends would fancy his chances of winning, if he’s free on the evening of Shrove Tuesday! If you think you’ve got what it takes to win the £100 top prize, then enter yourself into the Annual White Bear Pancake Eating Competition…

With a £100 prize for first place, and additional prizes for 2nd and 3rd places, competition is likely to be fierce! Entry is only £3 per person (which will include the cost of the pancakes themselves 🙂 ) and spaces are limited – if you’re keen to take part, email with your name and a contact telephone number.

The contest takes place at 8.30pm on Shrove Tuesday (Tuesday, March 8th), at the White Bear pub at 133 St Michael’s Hill. As with any competition, the White Bear have a strict set of rules that competitors must abide by…see below:

1. The competition will be broken into 3 rounds with 10 people in each for a total of 30 competitors. Each person must eat 10 pancakes in the quickest time possible. Your mouth must be completely empty. The two fastest eaters from each round will then compete in the finals and will have to eat another 5 pancakes.

2. No drinking during the competition. Too bad if you’re suffering from dry mouth.

3. Debris. Competitors are expected to maintain a relatively clean eating surface throughout the contest. Excess debris after the contest may result in disqualification.

4. Vomiting. If, at any point during or immediately after the contest, a competitor regurgitates any food, he or she will be disqualified. Vomiting, also known as a “reversal”, includes obvious signs of vomiting as well as any small amounts of food that may fall from the mouth deemed by judges to have come from the stomach. Small amounts of food already in the mouth prior to swallowing are excluded from this rule.

Would be interesting to hear if any readers are planning on taking part…if so, then good luck! 🙂
