Community Farm Launch Presentation, Nov 25th
Posted November 24, 2010
on:If you’ve ever wanted to own your own farm…now’s the chance, thanks to an investment opportunity at a new local organic community farm. Head to The Hub, Bush House, Prince Street between 6 and 8pm on Thursday, November 25th to find out more from The Better Food Company‘s Phil Haughton…
Overlooking Chew Valley Lake, the 22 acre Community Farm is owned by Luke Hasell and is currently used for The Better Food Company’s veg box scheme. However, the farm has now been set up as a community benefit society which could take over the growing, veg box scheme and wholesale trade of The Better Food Company. The company suggests that running the farm in this way could eventually provide up to 1,000 families with an organic veg box, and will give those investing the opportunity to gain experience and understanding of growing organic produce.
That’s where Bristol’s foodies come in. In order for this scheme to work, investment of £170,000 is needed, with individuals able to contribute anything from a minimum of £50 to a maximum of £20,000. Says David Hunter, Community Farm chair, “you will know that your investment is giving you and others the chance to reconnect with where your food comes from and experience growing first hand.”
The chance to invest is available until January 31st, and the event on Thursday, November 25th is an opportunity to hear Phil Haughton talking about the farm and to find out how to participate and where any investment will go. If you can’t make this evening, the team will have stalls at the Whiteladies Road Farmers’ Market on December 4th and 18th, and at the next Love Food Festival on December 22nd.
