This weekend’s foodie events – October 9th – 10th

Posted on: October 8, 2010

Another action-packed October weekend! Read on to find out what’s going on in the foodie world in Bristol on October 9th and 10th…

On Saturday (12pm-12am) AND Sunday (10am-10pm), The Tobacco Factory is the place to be. Bristol Beer Factory’s 2010 FactoberFest is “South Bristol’s very own beer ‘n’ blues festival”.

With 30 beers on offer (including a specially brewed 4.5% Hazelnut Latte Stout!) and a variety of local ciders, entrance to the festival is completely free.  Saturday’s festivities will include a craft market from 12-4pm, with a food market on Sunday between 10am and 4pm. To top it all off, you’ll be able to listen to a whole host of American-inspired blues bands…for full listings, check the Bristol Beer Factory website.

If you’re loathe to go south of the river but still fancy the idea of a beer festival, Clifton’s The Portcullis on Wellington Terrace is hosting their Hopfest from Thursday 7th to Monday 11th October. The current list of ales on the Portcullis website stands at 21, which understandably includes a  selection from Dawkins Ales (the pub’s owners), but also a range from other relatively local brewers such as Yeovil Ales  and Purple Moose.

The festival is free to attend, and opening times are as follows:

Thursday 7th:       4.30-11pm

Friday 8th:             12-2pm/4.30pm-12am

Saturday 9th:        12pm-12am

Sunday 10th:         12-10.30pm

Monday 11th:        4.30-11pm

Other events for the weekend include the following – if there’s anything else I’ve missed, please feel free to post a comment and let everyone know! 🙂

Saturday, October 9th

Chocolate Tasting with Feeding Your ImaginationArch House Deli, Boyces Avenue, Clifton Village

Time for the next installment of Arch House Deli’s tasting sessions, this time featuring the return of Paul Da-Costa-Greaves and his innovative Fairtrade, organic, mood-enhancing chocolate.

The FYI range consists of 12 varieties, all handmade in England using Belgian chocolate. Each bar has been designed to enhance a variety of moods, ranging from “Dreamy” (Lemon and Geranium Rose) to “Sensual” (Sweet Orange, Nutmeg and Chilli).

Paul will be in the deli between 11am and 3pm on Saturday for free tastings of the range, which can also be bought in-store.

Sunday, October 10th

Vintage Bristol Tea Party – The Lido, Oakfield Place, Clifton

A tea party with a Victorian theme on Sunday evening. Details from Vintage Bristol below…

“On Sunday, 10th October why not come and join us, along with Lahloo Tea at The Lido, Bristol’s fabulous open-air pool, bar and restaurant. The Lido team will be hosting a late afternoon tea with a difference – to celebrate the era the Lido was built, the dress code is Victorian through to pre-war – picture long skirts, high necks, amazing hats, morning suits, top hats … let your imaginations run riot!

The traditional tea will be served from 6.00-9.00 pm on our beautiful crockery and Lahloo Tea will be making a special ‘Vintage’ blend for the day.

This event is ticket only at a cost of £28 per person which also includes a day pass to return to the Lido for a day using the facilities.

Please contact events@lidobristol.com for further details.”

Don’t forget that the 2010 South Gloucestershire Local Food And Drink Festival is still in full swing, if you’re willing to travel slightly outside of Bristol itself. This weekend’s events include the Chipping Sodbury Festival of Food, an orchard harvest day, a Mediterranean cooking demonstration, and tours of local mills, bakeries, vineyards, breweries and dairy farms. Download the programme for more information on what’s happening this weekend and throughout October – and bear in mind that some events need pre-booking. 🙂
